Lip Reduction

Today, it is quite common to see photos of celebrities or artists with plump and very full lips. For many, smaller lips are a part of their body that they may feel self-conscious about. However, having full lips may also be a reason why someone feels self-conscious as well.

Are you tired of having that excess volume in your lips? Restore the balance and proportion of your facial features through lip reduction surgery at Washington Plastic Surgery!

What is Lip Reduction?

Lip reduction surgery is perfect for those people who want to reduce the excess volume on their lips.
Washington Plastic Surgery is a licensed cosmetic and plastic surgery clinic providing cosmetic surgeries, including lip reduction, in McLean, VA, Chevy Chase, MD,  and its surrounding areas.

Dr. Navin Singh will help you enhance your natural beauty by making your lips proportionate to your other facial features.

Is Lip Reduction right for you?

While there are people who are born with lips that are fuller than the average, there are also some who have lips that seem to swell because of trauma and some conditions such as:

  • Macrocheilia
  • Fistulas
  • Melkersson-Rosenthal syndrome
  • Pseudomacrocheilia
  • Lymphedematous infiltration
  • Inflammatory infiltration
  • Glandular hypertrophy
  • Hemangiomas
  • Infections
  • Drooling, imperfect speech, and other discomfort caused by overly broad lips

Individuals who smoke and have pre-existing medical conditions are discouraged from undergoing this procedure. It is also important that candidates must not have an autoimmune or inflammatory disease.

What to expect during lip reduction surgery?

During your consultation with Washington Plastic Surgery, you will have to inform our medical experts of your medical records, the food supplements and medications that you are currently taking, and other details that may affect the procedure and your recovery period.

Lip reduction surgery is an outpatient surgery, so you will be put under local anesthesia during the procedure, which lasts for about 45 minutes to 1 hour. During the procedure, Dr. Singh will make a horizontal incision to the pink inner portion of the lip to minimize scarring. Once all the targeted tissues are removed, the surgeon will close the incision with stitches. Lip reduction surgery at Washington Plastic Surgery is very safe.

What is the recovery period for lip reduction surgery?

Patients can go home right after the surgery. However, we recommend a family member or friend drive you home as you might still be groggy with anesthesia. Patients may experience swelling, bruising, and discomfort when talking and eating after the surgery; however, it will go away in 1-3 weeks. You may be prescribed over-the-counter painkillers and antibiotics to manage pain and prevent infection caused by the incision.

Remember to take two weeks off from work to recover fully and make sure to follow the instructions for care during your recovery period. You will also need to visit Washington Plastic Surgery for a follow-up checkup in 8-10 days. Your stitches may be removed during this time, too, if the incision is healing well.

For all your lip reduction needs, contact Washington Plastic Surgery, and talk to Dr. Singh to get advice on how the procedure will help you achieve your goals and suit your needs.
