Battle of the Bra Bulge: Different Ways to Get Rid of That Pesky Fat

Is a pesky bra bulge ruining the look of your favorite strapless dress?
Thankfully you’re not the only one. So you have a number of options, surgical and noninvasive alike, to avoid having to wear full body Spanx.
Allow the bra fat experts at Washingtonian Plastic Surgery to help you deal with this tricky area.

Liposuction

Liposuction obviously comes to mind. It’s the easiest way to get rid of a problem area.
“It doesn’t matter how skinny someone is—anyone can have it,” New York plastic surgeon Dr. Richard Swift, explains.
“It’s often a hereditary distribution of fat. Liposuction has been the gold standard of treatment for this area.”
Liposuction, also known as lipoplasty or liposculpture, is a body-sculpting procedure performed at Washingtonian Plastic Surgery to remove fat deposits that are unresponsive to dieting and exercising.
This procedure can be applied to many different areas of the body.  Liposuction results in a slimmer and better proportioned figure.
Nearly half a million liposuctions were performed in the Unites States last year. You are not alone.

Injectables

Kybella is a great option for those looking to avoid going under the knife.
Kybella is the first and only FDA approved nonsurgical treatment that contours and improves the appearance of fat under the chin (double chin).
Dr. Swift loves the stuff and says its designed to destroy fat cells.
“Kybella is a deoxycollic acid,” Dr. Swift says. “When it’s injected into fatty tissue, a chemical reaction occurs and it dissolves the fat.”
It is important to note that patients with excessive skin laxity should avoid Kybella, your skin will not correct.

Non-Invasive Treatment

SculpSure is a non-surgical treatment and, better yet, will cost you no downtime. It will however take up to 12 weeks to show any results.
Dr. Arash Akvahen, a cosmetic dermatologist out of New York, explains how it works:
“The fat cells are destroyed by the laser and the fat leaks out of the cells and goes into our lymphatics. The fat particles are then processed in our liver and excreted from our bodies as waste.”
It can sound complicated but Dr. Akvahen assured how much his patients loved it. He said most patients don’t experience any after effects.
CoolSculpting is another option, which freezes off fat with a process named Cryolipolysis.
Cryolipolysis refers to cold-induced injury to fat. When fat and skin are cooled simultaneously, fat can be injured while the skin remains unharmed.
When the cooling plates within the applicator are activated, the temperature of the tissue is lowered to a point where the skin remains healthy but some of the fat is irreversibly injured.

Gym and Lifestyle

Let’s put the power back in your hands. You can tackle that unsightly bra fat on your own. It just takes hard work. First, you will want to hit the gym.
Fitness trainer Nadia Murdock recommends concentrating on the largest back muscles. These are known as your “lats.”
“Other muscle groups that you should work are the Serratus Anterior (wings) found on the side of the body,” Murdock says. “It is important to remember that there is no miracle to banish back fat overnight.”
So don’t panic if you can’t see the results you want right away. Consistent exercise and a proper diet will get the job done. Other exercises Murdock suggests you try are pull-downs on the cable machine, cable rows and bent-over rows.
